Not enough until cops are at your place and your steam gets banned, not just trade banned. You'll end up behind bars for what you've done.
Bump and we shouldnt purchase more than 15 $ or 7 TF2 keys. Thats a lesson for most users admins should make a system here but because of that costs($$) people will be scammed.

I strongly suspect him of having tried to scam me too (for 1500+ dollar worth).
In the past I've had a legit trade with him (bought something of him). Later he kept contacting me with weird messages, stalker behaviour and a lot of impatience. Either I or he then removed the other from friendlist.
Then shortly before he tried to scam me he added me again, did some more weird messages, stalker behaviour and a lot of impatience but less than previously.

- He offered 8 dollar each which is very weird as at that time (and now still) that's quite a bit more than what's it going for on Steamtrades. (Already kinda distrusted it from here on)
- Then suddenly asks for +/- 6 each which sounds somewhat more legit. But weird after he first offers 8 each.
- Then agrees on 6,6 dollar each which still is more than market value certainly for bulk.
- Says fees are too high for him if he'd buy in parts while it would max only cost him 1,5 dollar more which is nothing compared to total value.
---> After all this I didn't take any more screenies because of the conversation after this point because I already strongly suspected he was trying to scam me.
What's not in screenies (conversation after that):
- Wanted me to go first (me giving him all at once)
- I offer him to use middleman of Reddit trades admin, and several people with 200+ rep on steamtrades of which he refuses all.
- Says he got a big business on Ebay (first time he said is in screeny 1 also) while it was being sold for less than what he offered me on Australian Ebay.
- Conversation continued for a loooong time, he trying to convince me to go first. When he started to notice I wasn't biting he then started to offer 8 dollar each again to try to convince me. Also saying that nobody else would pay this much. Of course they wouldn't as people were selling it for quite a bit less, which made it impossible that he'd be willing to pay 8 dollar each.

Sorry for posting this so late, it was - i think - about a month ago that this happened.
I didn't make this public as he didn't actually scam me so I don't have any solid proof, only suspicion and the evidence only suggests that he MIGHT have tried to scam me. It's not rocksolid proof. Because he's trade banned on Steam now, it's proven beyond doubt that he's scamming.
A bad thing on Steamtrades in my opinion is that scammers can -rep people they scammed, so they can extort them to give negative rep if people mark them as scammer. This happens too often, like monochrome is doing now, negative repping everybody that reported him for scamming. Which is extra punishment for the victims as some people might not trade with them because of the false negative rep. Please mark rep left by scammers or remove it. Doing so might stop scammers like this earlier. If I didn't have to worry about getting negative rep for reporting mono for suspected attempt to scam than less people might have gotten a victim. If I'd have negative repped every single person that ever tried to scam me or that I highly suspected of it I would have gotten like 5 negative rep myself by now from those scammers, which would make my life in trading a lot harder. Please create a solution for this that scammers can be reported without the victim having to fear for their own reputation.

When I bought something of him long time ago (in legit trade) he already was very weird and very paranoia.
I think either getting scammed or getting a scam message popping up when trading with him on Steam before he started scamming triggered him to go on a scamming rampage out of frustation and fortified by his mental illness.
That's exactly what he did to me and others, elvper. You are better then the rest of us for being skeptical. But you're probably right about his other problems, which is sad, given how young he is. His future will be pretty bleak.

Can you tell me the name of the detective through Steam? I got an impersonator which I've been able to locate well, but not his exact address, only the neighbourhood he's living in. He lives only 2 hours driving away from me. I'm seriously considering paying that one a visit as he scammed somebody for more than 400 euro while pretending to be me. And Steam support still hasn't replied after a week. I did however contact Paypal which says it has launched an investigation, which hopefully got his Paypal accounts locked.

Technically he hasn't broken any TOS that would warrant outright banning. Plus that basically severs any hope that his claims of trying to be honest might actually be true.
In case anyone was still hoping that he might return your valuables, he was online just 3 days ago on Steamgifts. Which proves he has ran off from his main account on steam until the trade ban expires.
UPDATE 15 April: a fine detective work by FyreFlareon, and some help from the community seemingly able to locate Monochrome Fire's exact location. If someone in Perth Australia interested in practicing his long unused kung-fu technique, reply here.

Edit: this thread seems to reveal other victims that previously held their voice just because the high +rep and calming promises of the scammer. Although not much hard evidence have been given by those, but the amount of additional reports itself should act as a sign not to trade with Monochrome Fire.

On 28 Mar my friend gave 73 tf2 keys to suspected scammer, with the latter promising to send paypal $$ afterwards.
My friend never received the money, with the latter saying that he sent the money to the wrong address, promising that he'll need to resolve it with Paypal and asking for 2-3 days.
Until this very second, the latter refused to show any proof that he was indeed sent money to the wrong address, nor shows any sincere intention to resolve the issue.

In a spirit to keep the trading community clean off scams, which will contribute to a better world overall, I would urge people not to trade with the latter and bump this thread to show your support, and admin(s) to ban the latter's account so he can't do harm to others.
To MonochromeFire, please proof your innocence and good intention by at least showing the proof that you send the money to the wrong address, and you filed that support ticket with paypal.
