lol I plaied the old old old ass NES Battle Chess, was fun and funny and it was smart enough for stuff like castling i think even then, don't remember much about it.... was a LONG LONG time ago, just that it was fun and if you took a queen with a rook he would eat her whole, spit out the crown and stomp on it.
