Just want to give everyone a heads-up, the word is that there is an illegal key generator for A Valley Without Wind 1+2 being distributed on Russian sites that spits out pirated keys, and if you activate one of these you may risk having Valve put a trade ban on your Steam account (even if you have no knowledge of this) -- I know someone that this happened to (for a different game previously).

I would strongly suggest that everyone treat any keys for this game as pirated and not trade for them. I have seen at least one person going around here taking advantage of unsuspecting people with this scam. Please help by spreading the word so this stops, thank you.

I saw somebody here on steamtrades that claims to have "1000" keys. Now i know why, thanks for the heads up. Could you be more obvious :P Bump

I know, right. I saw that as well. He made the mistake of trying to make me an offer with it.

This was news 5 months ago with Valley Without Wind 1 when unsuspecting folks were banned on Steam. Shame that people are pulling the same scam again.

Should also be aware that Natural Selection 2 keys were massively exploited and a ton of NS2 keys have been revoked and more are set to be revoked on Steam in the near future.

Have seen people trading MW3 and Dead Island keys here recently but both of these games are also exploited and trading them is explicity against the rules.

NS2 keys really aren't a problem. All the affected ones have been used up a long time ago, I never see them in trade anymore. MW3 key was result of an Amazon price mistake, but the sales were honored and the keys are legit. Dead Island keys had a bad batch many months ago that ended up revoked, none of them will even activate anymore. The currently traded lot is mostly from Raptr promotion and those are perfectly fine.

Trading Dead Island keys here is still against the rules, though, no matter where the key comes from.

Uhhh no they aren't. The rules linked above are for giveaways on Steamgifts and have nothing to do with trading on here. Plus everyone knows they are grossly outdated and do not get updated to address new issues that may arise. I have no idea why Dead Island may have been considered exploited previously for giveaways, but there is absolutely nothing illegitimate about this latest batch of Raptr keys.

Also of note, Dead Island keys were considered exploited. Dead Island GOTY were NEVER considered exploited, and those are what you primarily see now and what came from Raptr (and in some cases other legitimate sources).

Uhhh no they aren't.

Uhhh yes they are.

Okay fair enough. But do you have any idea of the last time that was updated? Judging by the amount of active moderation on here by staff (i.e. none) and from what I have seen of the FAQ on Steamgifts, probably never or not since it was posted a year ago. I'm sure there was a good reason for putting Dead Island on that list at the time, but as ceildric noted above, it does not sound like it affected the Dead Island GOTY edition.

Oh no! Someone made a deal with me with those games. D:

Trade ban for activating them is highly unlikely. Key being removed from the account is highly likely. Trading these keys to other users might result in something harsher though.

People who activated these keys will only lose that game, no bans.

You can't say that for sure. I know someone who previously got a trade ban for activating a 'bad' key on their account, even though it wasn't their fault and they were innocent.

I have seen some activity of these games on Steam gifts as well. Should the mods be warned about this?

For the time being I'd say just click on the "report" button if it looks fishy. I think they know about it now and have been removing suspicious looking giveaways for it and handing out some suspensions. The problem here on Steamtrades though is that no one actively monitor's things. I sent in a report about this issue concerning a certain trader on here and hopefully they will investigate.

I was also offered a bunch of these keys to sell just a few days ago. Even though it sounded like a good deal I refused it because it was one of those deals that sounded too good to be true. After refusing the deal though he had began pasting all the keys to me anyway trying to get me to test them, which I continued to refuse, then started blaming me for already having them and that I was going to use them. I assured him that I wouldn't use them and then ended the chat.

Yeah I saw that before. Thanks for letting everyone know of the sale though. Can get it for like $3 right now with the additional 20% off coupon. Unfortunately there is no way to know whether someone is trading a legit key or not.
