Scammed by ^^ using the name xDIABLOx

Reported here:
http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/76561198077997006-xdiablox.16481/

Learn from my mistake display names can be spoofed and mean nothing check IN STEAM to see if the persons profile is private if it is block them!!! Always have them post on your thread here at steamtrades and follow the link to their profile from there and verify in steam.

ALWAYS RUN THEIR STEAM ID64 though a check @ http://steamrep.com/

Showing online from steam site but offline to me looks like he blocked me? What if anything can I do?

So I guess its possible to change your display name to a person with a good rep like xDIABLOx and use their name to scam. Now that this is done and they have blocked me or marked private again is there anything I can do to report them? I don't have a link to their real profile short of whats in my screenshot....

You can get it through your trading log in steam and report him to steam support.

if someone link you rep click on his link and verify its them. this guy has been copycating every good trader here.

don't even know what to do cause he just makes a new account when the old one is banned cause valve could care less about traders getting ripped off.

I guess he can get back his item.

steam will not return gifts. they would rather the scammer keep them.

make sure you make a report with steamrep as well as valve. as valve will just ban him for 2weeks but steamrep will allways have him marked as a scammer.

same guy just added me and tried to scam

He added me literally about 20 mins ago trying to get me to accept a trade for a Far Cry 3 key. I refused him due to him having a private account, and the fact he is trading a key. Glad I did now. Sorry to hear you got scammed, what did he get?

I didn't know about private profiles guess I learn the hard way this time. If I can do anything to make this guys scamming job any harder I would like to.

How, he blocked me so showing offline and not in my friends list now and I don't have a link to his real steamID (it was private?)

i'm not 100% sure though, i don't have the time to investigate this

you can view his account in your trade history. his name may be different but it will allways be there.

removed this part as its no longer applicable

he changed it. it is the right one now.

1 Rule: when someone trys to add you, look at their profile. When the profile is private, hit block. He was goin to try to scam me to, I blocked him before he could even chat with me. p.s. sorry didn't notice the message above.. but yes a very good rule to keep. Even so, if their profile on steam only seem to have a few +reps or +reps from months an months ago, have them post on your thread in steam trades, so you can look at the profile on here as well.

Good advice, I don't see anything I can do. Where can I view said trade history? I will know next time to have them post I honestly had no idea they could just spoof a display name with an identical one and keep a private profile.

To add to that, if the profile isnt private make sure to check how long ago the account was made and how many games it has on it. New account with low to none games is also an avoid for me if the profile is public(though it should be for anyone anyway).

its that guy. Also watch out for this guy: http://steamcommunity.com/id/d3pp

The top profile link I listed is the guy who scammed you. I've just reported him and given your profile for the info of a person who was scammed by him.

I was just added by this guy, with the name of xDIABLOx, could it have anything to do with this situation? http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198077997006/

This was the (short) chat that we had. http://i.imgur.com/otnMx.png
(I see someone here got scammed out of Borderlands 2, if I'm not mistaken.)

Here is his info that I got off of Steamrep:
http://steamrep.com/profiles/76561198077997006

|steamID: xDIABLOx

|steamID32: STEAM_0:0:58865639

|steamID64: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198077997006

|customURL:

|steamrepURL: http://steamrep.com/profiles/76561198077997006

His profile was private, as you can see here (I also opened his username history tab so you can see that too) http://i.imgur.com/TRQtb.png

So does this guy have to do with this situation? Hope I helped somehow.

Already did.

http://forums.steamrep.com/threads/76561198077997006.16481/

reported him there and put in as much info as I could.

1 decade ago
Permalink

even if its not enuff when he scammes others and they report, it helps if the guy trys to fight them.

1 decade ago
Permalink

http://steamcommunity.com/id/TylerTech/inventoryhistory/ taking a screenshot of that would help prove that you actually sent him Borderlands 2 as well.

As a side note, steam64id is the best way to verify, but a quicker method would be to simply compare the number of games and friends.

Most legitimate traders will have a public profile that you can easily view and check against the person you're currently talking with.

Every time I've been scammed, it's been someone from here. Reddit SGS is so much better.
