Giving away something and asking for reputation can be considerated as rep boosting, since +rep must be given only if a real trade is done. Also if you are searching some rep to not going 1st in a trade, i would have suspects on someone that has positive rep only because he had given away something free.
Or simply, just don't ask for reputation and accept anything for it (like dota2 :P )
