Perhaps you could ask Amazon to give you a new key and them request steam to ban the other one. Tell that to Halmy, if that's what he wants from you. Let's see his reaction.
If you went first and he gave you the keys that means he accepted your offering so it's not your problem that he's idiot enough to pay you for something that doesn't work without checking it first, if what he says is correct. I would say you are right and if he payed that means he found the key good enough, so it's not your problem anymore. If the key in fact was already used, at least now he learns not to buy keys if he wont use them but try to re-sell them. And maybe the guy he reselled to was lying that the key didn't work, but it's not your problem anymore since he accepted it and payed for it. There's usually no buyback in trading, that's a lesson he has to learn.

23 hours ago - i traded http://steamcommunity.com/id/HalmyAK/ 2 keys for my Amazon XCOM key.
Trade went great. I went first and i asked if everything went okay and i dont believe he gave me an answer but he continued with giving me the keys.
21 hours ago- He traded http://steamcommunity.com/id/Hodderman . I obviously dont know what they traded but Looking at his profile he started playing XCOM for .4 hours for the first time yesterday after the trade i had with Halmy.
I get a message today from Halmy saying my key was duplicate.
Well i know i have not given the key to anyone else. And i dont think amazon gave me a bad key...
Halmy claims he traded Hodderman for thief. i keep telling him he probably accidently gave him xcom, because im having trouble believing that he started playing xcom for the first time yesterday after the trade took place with my and halmy.
I sent a friend request to Hodderman to help me confirm my theory.
I just wanna make sure im not bugging or to see if this has happened to anyone else.
I did not expect anything like this would happened with a 300+ rep trade. Im just worried.
Note- Halmy has a lot of trouble with his english so its hard to communicate with him
