Remember that water is free but society buys bottled water. Think about it. For now Dota 2 as a worth (even if it's not as high as OP's whould want, but that's another subject xD). Rarity costs something.

there is no offcial statement that dota 2 will be f2p ; gabe newel said it will be f2p but with some twist ; but thats the best way to think about it that is going to be f2p ; thats what he said
