Oh, forgot...yes - It's Origin only but I wouldn't trust EA games on Steam anyway. Sometimes EA gets a tad greedy and will only update their Origin copy.

Personally when it comes to EA - Console is better. If PC then definitely only through Origin. If outside the USA I would completely avoid anything EA / Maxis due to server availability to us overseas and Maxis games heavily depending on those inaccessible servers. I wasted a 20 spot on DarkSpore like that.

Yeah, EA is competing for sales for their own games.
So their main focus is not on Steam.
So far I had one Need for Speed game that I had to also get on Origin so that I could get the final patch and Mirror's Edge has a DLC exclusive to Origin so if you purchased it on Steam - you don't have the complete game.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are more oddities like this already or if more turn up in the future.

One other thing to point out. Some companies like Ubisoft will still insist you sign up to and login with their service (Ubi's is called "UPlay" ) and in those instances you will be going through two clients at once. I'm not sure if EA has done this or not - I do know that even if you play some EA games through Steam you will still have to have an email, user name and password associated with EA themselves.
