Took an Alien Isolation game key. Went offline immediately. Posting as scammer/impersonator. From all the info/evidence I've collected, this user was impersonating another user name of TheIronicGamer.

Good one. If you can prove it to me, I'll believe you.

Common sense! That's my proof

Ok. Not much I can do with that. But if the user's account has been hacked, better for others to know not to trade.

He doesn't even own the game, it was a fake dude...

what do you mean by fake? someone hacked you mean?

Nope. Just copy. You had to add him from steamtraders link.

LOL it doesnt matter if he doesnt own the game. He can activate the key to another account, His brother's account or whatsoever. But both profile matches though all numbers u see, all friends on his account are same, etc so should be him :-)

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Just letting people aware, that's all.

It is likely that you got scammed by an impersonator, I suggest you check your profile activity, it should list the scammer's real steam profile.
Just my two cents.

the profile checked out ok from steam/steamrep when i traded. so not too sure, but it could be. This gets the word out anyways. For future trades with this user/impersonator. So just be careful.

  • copy the steam profile url in your steam client
  • open it in a browser, which has Enhanced Steam installed
  • click the link to his Steamtrades profile; now you know his real profile and don't have to rely on any links he sent you in chat

did you do that? if not, you can't even tell if it was really the guy you are accusing here.

I installed enhanced steam now. It was an impersonator. The real ironicgamer is on my friends list now, so all good.

Impersonator. You should always check the profile of the guy that added you, dont just check links he gives you. Install EnhancedSteam and save yourself the trouble of hunting down his real steamtrades profile and to check his steamrep.

Thanks. TheIronicGamer has reached out to me and provided some more info. It appears that this is a job of an impersonator.

This is the 64 ID of the accused scammer.

What is the 64 ID of the profile you traded with?

I see a TheIronicGamer on your friends list, have you added him from his steamtrades profile link after he scammed and removed you, or is that the person who scammed you, and he just forgot to remove you after stealing your game? If he just forgot to remove you, then it really is the guy with 97 positive rep and 675 games, which is crazy for me to understand, why scam someone for a 9 tf2 key game after getting 97 rep on ST, he could have done it for a way more expensive game if he decided to be a dick all of a sudden. But, if it really is him, he probably just traded away your key right after he got it, or he activated it on another steam account, because he doesn't own Isolation on his current account.

btw, always check game prices before you trade games for other games. Mordor is region locked in Russia, and it is WAAAAY more valuable than Isolation right now, so this trade was too good to be true to begin with.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like an impersonator's job. I should be more careful next time!
