Yeah... The people who send those links in the chat like that, have been hijacked by the guy who is sending those links out. It won't have been them. :l
i think i faced that problem 2 times, coz have a lot of friends :) hope that they can restore their acoounts.
I did give the Info and i feel like a fool. However i managed to change my password before anything happened.
Smart move! :) Trying to hijack an account would be stopped to require verification from Steam that would be sent via e-mail that you are trying to use your account from an unknown IP, location or Browser. So unless they have your e-mail password (hopefully it's not the same as Steam), it's not going to happen and thus with the notice in your e-mail you would immediately notice someone is trying to get into your account and change your login Steam Information and file a ticket with steam about the situation. Steam Guard is the safest way. )
DI was stupid and did it, but good thing I changed my pass real quick once I realized what happened and I had only 1 coupon in my inventory, so nothing taken, but unfortunately some of friends don't believe me and blocked me and reported me
Huge Bump! Thx for easy explanation and warning, everyone should read this/know this.
Nice info bro :), be carefuly with trading gifts, because some people buy gifts from a fake card and they trade them, later steam delete the gifts and they'll ban you :'(
RamiroSk8Er: later steam delete the gifts and they'll ban you :'(
complete BS. they will not ban you for others fraudulent actions.
You won't get banned for others fraud activities. That is a myth that has spread quickly on ST. Only a removal of the game from your account. If Steam believes that you have knowingly partook in the trade scam through an investigation, you will get Trade Banned. Not Account Banned. A perfect example are all the people who scammed others selling ARMA III copies that were obtained or purchased illegally with stolen CCs and if you look at all their profiles you will see they are all trade banned. The persons who obtained the ARMA III copies from such trades had their games removed by Steam and were NOT banned. Though the items they traded to get the ARMA III games were not returned because they had made the trade for ARMA III keys which was outside Steam's TOS.
Same happened to me. When I pointed out to the person in chat, the cheeky shit even said it was a hacked account!
before following a link with login always look if the url beginn with https://.....
if the s is misssing, this site is not registerd for secure, changes to get scam 101%
scammers usually dont have SSL certificate !!!!
We are in computer era so we have to avoid to this. It will grow up as much as Internet is growing. Take care and good luck to all.
now i feel stupid as f**k!
i am new to trading and after about a week of being on this site i got few random invites and didn't even realise that my password was stolen and the worst part of it: i did have the same password for steam and my email!
but two things have saved my account: steam guard and gmail detecting unusual ip address
besides that about 5 scammers/impersonators traing to rrip me off but i managed to not get fooled by them
It has come to my attention that a user is finding people on trade sites, SteamTrades or others, and is telling people to add them because they get a Steam error when they attempt to add you.
HOWEVER, he will leave a URL like this "http://lsteamncommunity.com/id/crab332/" in a reply (sometimes - if your friend has been hijacked, they will send you a URL like this). PLEASE DO NOT CLICK THE URL - It is a Phishing site!
The scam worked like this:
Please ALWAYS CHECK THE URL! As you will notice in the example above "http://lsteamncommunity.com/id/crab332/" it has an "l" at the beginning and an "n" in the middle. These are there to trick you as it looks similar to the real website. Please DO NOT be fooled!
The REAL website is http://steamcommunity.com/ - it it is any variant of this, then it will be a phishing site!
If you notice one of your friends send a URL like this to you, it is safe to say their account has been hijacked. Steam guard is designed to prevent attacks like this, even if someone has your username and password, however it doesn't always work... There are some crafty b*ggers out there.
So be careful guys! Especially when trading.
