I didn't know that so I checked and you are right, it's only for uplay. But, Steam runs this game through uplay anyway, so I am not sure if there is any use for another application running in the background, even if it is Steam. :(

It probably can't be activated on Steam, although I am sure that uplay must be installed in order to play the game. Don't get offended cause you are not the only one who cares about this, but I don't understand why it is so important to run it from Steam.

But, the game will run in uplay besides Steam, you will only start the game from Steam! So if uplay is buggy and unstable game will run equally bad on Steam too... o.O
Uplay version does not depends on Steam so it can only be better...
