I have 3 piles of gems that I can't convert into a sack of gems unless they are traded to someone. If anyone out there wants to help me out by swapping a sack of gems for a thousand gems I'd appreciate it.

Separate piles of gems cannot be combined into a sack. I don't know why, Valve just screwed up and never fixed it. I have piles of 800, 100, and 103. The only known way of combining multiple piles of gems is to trade them to someone else. When you trade gems they are automatically converted into a single pile.
