We have resolved this trade, however, there were some serious red flags. It took a dispute on Barter and a -rep on SteamTrades to get him to even contact me again, and after compensating me half of what I was owed, he demanded I take down my -rep while I waited for him to get me the other game.

I am convinced that this user has an alt, which is his friend on Steam, named sofianeke78. I believe this mainly because both accounts have uploaded to the same YouTube channel, AveroFX Designer, and because they are both the first +reps on each other's SteamTrades accounts, despite no record of an agreement to trade on either SteamTrades or Barter.vg. When we resolved our trade, I asked him to provide evidence that he was not Sofiane Ke, the name attached to his Steam. He sent me his Facebook, which I will not link here for privacy reasons, but I will say that, not only did the pictures match those that I found on a separate Facebook belonging to a Sofiane Ke, who also owned the Twitter handle sofianeke78, the same name as his alt on Steam, but the Facebook also contained links to the AveroFX Designer YouTube channel, which he claimed to have no knowledge of when I asked him about it. In the end, I got my games and he got his, but I do not recommend trading with this user. He also threatened to leave me a -rep and call me a scammer when I let him know that I would be leaving this in the rep. I have provided images above to document the entire chat, with exception of the Humble Bundle Gift Links, his real last name and the name attached to his secondary Facebook, and the link to his Facebook he provided me. I will only provide uncensored versions of those pictures to a moderator if asked to do so.

I received a region locked Steam key. The trader doesn't care. He stopped talking to me on Steam. I do not recommend trading with this user.

Bad Bad Bad trader... Claiming that he didn't received the gift link, and he already traded away the game which he offered me... and yet he is able to activate the game that i gave him... Lucky for me it is only a $1 bundle from Humble... Still, this is very dishonest behavior for a trader. Just be mindful next time if you trade with him, let him go first instead.

Ok, so I’m changing this from negative to positive.

But please read the full story below with the resolution now included.

The TL;DR is that he is honest, but he really needs to work on his communication and not making agreements he isn’t 100% sure he can fulfill. Discuss the full terms and get direct answers first and ask him to go first.

Anyway, the story:

I offered $15 Steam Wallet to purchase A Hat in Time based on his thread. We talked and he made it sound like he had the gift on another account when actually he was purchasing the game and sending it to me from another account. In the moment I should have asked more questions, but I wanted the game and so sent him $10 of the $15 first since he had more rep. My mistake.

Anyway, he said that his other account was having difficulty purchasing games and would have to try again later. He apologized for the inconvenience and I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, but then he disappeared and ignored my messages for 5 days. By this time I thought it was over and reported him, left negative rep, and unfriended him thinking he was a scammer.

After those 5 days he re-friended me and apologized. He was trying to purchase the game from Russia and had been talking to Steam support. He said I needed to change my VPN. I didn’t know that was the source of the game and said I would never have agreed to a trade had I known. I didn’t want to mess with any of that and I asked for a refund, but he had already spent it and said he had no way to purchase a gift card to send me.

I said I was open to another game, and he made offers over the next several days. We went back and forth but all his offers were cheap, free, or HB games. I finally found a game on his barter list that was desirable and of equal value to our original agreement. At first he wanted a little bit more for it, but I said no, this was our agreement, this is the same value, and he had not yet upheld his end of the deal. Nevertheless, I wanted to give him the chance to make it right and I appreciated him trying. I said I would send him the last $5 and change my rep review if he sent me that game. He said yes, ok, and sent me the game, then I sent him the $5.

I’m thankful we came to a satisfactory conclusion and that in the end he upheld his part even if it took a long time. As I said at the beginning, he is honest, but he really needs to work on his communication and understanding not to make agreements he can’t fulfill immediately. I think he assumed it would work without having all the information himself. Discuss the full terms and get direct answers first and ask him to go first.
