The basic is, you buy gifts from Steam or retails like GMG, GOG, etc (when they are on sales). Don't redeem them, make treads / offers, then use them to trade with others.
I recommend you read the guide on reddit, just we are not exactly using reddit, but most of the processes are the same.

Supreme Commander: Gold Edition and Verdun interest me but I don't want to trade them for now. Waiting Supreme Commander to have a 90% discount and the player base of Verdun is too small, so no for now, remind me to check when you got other games.
