This is the first time I've had to deal with this kind of thing, so any advice is very much appreciated, thank you.
well, i've had this impersonator problem for a long time now..
not much we can do about it.
normally an impersonator will link your steamtrades rep to the victim saying that they should trust him. i had my friend post a negative rep on purpose on mine to get people's attention, because if they're about to trust the guy and go first, and they see a -1, they may be a bit cautious go check to see what it's for.
when i get a -rep from a victim i normally add them, wait for them to finish cussing me out, then tell them it wasn't me and to go check their inventory history to find the real scammer, and ask them to give me the link.. normally after they check, they apologize and remove the -rep..
I'm sorry to hear you've been having this problem. Thanks for the advice, though. Will try to keep that in mind.
The worst thing in this case is that user Marco90 blaming emotioengine at steamrep in scam even after posting proofs about impersonator. Marco80, if you're reading this, shame on you! You so smart to post report on steamrep without checking, but to lazy to check scammer's profile on steamrep BEFORE trading. You've sent your gift to well-known scammer (as you can see by his steam ID on steamrep) and then you're blaming other trader as scammer. Shame.
I feel sorry for Marco90 because he is the victim of a scam, but I wish he would realize that he does not need to falsely accuse me as well, when there is enough evidence to suggest that my impersonator scammed him and that I have nothing to do with this. It's quite frustrating that he won't be convinced.
UPDATE: I filed a support ticket and after viewing the evidence, they have suspended the account of my impersonator on Steam Trades: http://www.steamtrades.com/user/DonnieD.
I just wished the two victims would understand what was going on and remove their negative rep from my profile.
EDIT: The first user removed his negative rep. Thank goodness!
Thank you for posting in the Steam Rep thread in my support, much appreciated :)
I'm just glad I could help out. I also tried to talk Marco90, he has not responded though. You can probably get his -rep removed if you ask support.
Yes, I saw that. I am trying to convince him to remove his -rep because if he isn't convinced he could just repost even if support removed it. Thanks again for your help.
good news! i'm really sorry that you have to deal with this impersonation thing, but hopefully everything'll work out and the second user will remove his negative rep too
It seems at least two people were scammed by an impersonator posing as myself. Please check that you are dealing with the real me: My profile is never set to private, my Steam account is over 8 years old and has over 450 games on it.
I am trying to find the Steam ID of the impersonator so I can post it here. The two negative reps are from victims of the scammer.
EDIT: it's this guy: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198061469781
He has many aliases. This is his STEAMTRADES ID, and this is his SteamRep profile
Some of the names he has used:
de_marco
dindo
donkey
emotionengine
sneeky
mercilessly
Veenru
qbc

The negative rep I received from the victim, a post on my profile by another victim, and this thread have brought this to my attention.
