Or, instead of the current system, you could have a steamgift's sorta design where you pick a gift from a dropdown menu and you can search this way.
Not sure if cg can do it, just my thoughts.
yup thats really bad because topics stay on first page only for 5 minutes so i think 30 minutes would be perfect....
sorry mate but that is extreme. People left official steam trading cos of this policy.
It's only temporary until the bumping isn't so severe. People are bumping every 1-5 minutes.
I hope so, cos I never understood this policy. Trading forums are not the same as "normal" forums, active traders shouldnt be punished for being active.
Understand that when someone posts on your thread, that bumps it for you, too. We hope this will put a stop to the unnecessary overbumping. I've removed over 40 threads alone that were nothing but 20+ comments of the OP bumping his thread. This will not be tolerated.
oh well, nice to meet you here, so finally your brother (as you said) keep his decision for scamming me? (Sr mod if I'm out of topic)
Depending on the severity, I'm removing their threads or giving them a warning.
If I bumped after 12 hours, may I delete the bump post to make the topic cleaner?
I'm sorry, but I'd like to see when you bumped. Otherwise, I'm going to think you're trying to cheat in some bumps and that could result in the removal of your thread.
Another solution to keep the topic clean would be a bump button, which is accessable every 30 min - 2 hours.
I will speak to the administrator on other ways to handle it, but this current policy is only temporary. I am sorry for those that aren't getting enough face time on page one, but we should be able to reach a compromise on proper bumping etiquette soon. The bumping every 1-5 minutes was getting out of hand.
It appears this has been unstickied...Does this mean that we need to bump this thread?
No, we had too many stickies, a total of five, and I put all the discussion links in the official site FAQ thread. Three stickies means that three threads won't get front page, etc.
I'd say making a limit between the times of each bump is better; making it 15~30 minutes could be a good start
A bump an hour. 30 minutes is still excessive, but 4x-day isn't nearly enough. I bumped and my thread was still off the first page and into the pits of obscurity in 5 minutes.
Exactly. Due to the overwhelming activity, 12 hours would become an absolute nightmare for everyone. I don't want to drop that kind of nuke on the community, but I don't want people to have bump races either. The front page only featured those that bumped the most constantly, and that needed to change.
One hour seems reasonable enough. I'll wait until more suggestions, though.
Yeah, I completely understand the need to limit bumping. It was ridiculous and I couldn't get anything done. Alright, see what else comes up, and go with your gut on it. It shouldn't be too hard to come up with a reasonable solution.
Like Fruchtii said above you could do like tf2tp and tf2outpost does with their trading and make a bump button that is only accessible after a certain amount of time.
Here's the problem. This is just a forum, so everyone that comments on your thread is also bumping it for you. Unless we lock threads and the administrator implements a bump button, that would be great. I'll ask him about the feature, as having it as a normal forum hasn't been working out.
3-4 hours might not work out too well, I'm not sure. Seeing as people would hit page 5 in a matter of minutes without even the front page being bumped.
Agreed, it was only temporary while we worked out other kinks and tried to clean up house until we can reach a compromise. 30m might be too short, though.
Another good point. The search bar helps out a lot and I hope people have been taking advantage of it more than trying to scan each page.
Yep. Especially for people that search a certain game.
Also, should be an announce before the 'topic' is created to name the title about the game(s) he has.
One hour seems to be a pretty good compromise for now until a better system is established.
When you do it 16 times in 15 minutes, it can be a bit excessive. We need to regulate bumping.
Add more topics to the front page.
That way people will stay on front longer.
The main reason (I think) the bumping is needed to get your topic noticed is because the threads go so fast people rather refresh page 1 then actually check the next pages.
Out of curiosity, what's wrong with bumping a trade thread every 10 min? It shows that the thread owner is active and can respond to you and when they're not there, the thread quickly falls onto page 20 until they are active again.
If people are doing it every minute then how about a special bump button that can only be used every 5 or 10 minutes so the trader can show "I'm active!", without their thread being full of bump bump bump bump bump, etc.
Edit: Another version of the idea would be a button with a cooldown of 10 minutes that would lock your thread on an "active" (page 1) list for 15 to 20 minutes, if the OP doesn't hit the button again before the 15/20 minutes grace period wears off then the thread falls into obscurity on the "inactive" list instead until they come back to be active with their trading again and no other method "bumps" threads, such as somebody posting.
Okay, one bump every hour it is with the exception to not use your bump within 30 minutes of the latest activity on your thread. I feel this is suitable.
1 hour per bump looks fair enough, as long as your topic can stay 10 minutes + - in the first half of the 1st page^^
Hi lokonopa,
could you add the feature that if someone clicks on the name of a user he can see his steam profile?
because lot of useres dont know how to find the user on steam... :(
like the one on steam gifts:
I used to check their steamgifts profile fo find them in steam.
thanks!
Welp, this place went from being the #1 Game Trading site to your average usual Steam forums thread.
I see a bunch of ninja bumping going on now. Deleting their posts and bumping every minute.
I'd consider anything that bumps your thread up the list a... bump no matter what it's original purpose was. So to be fair it's best to stick to the 1 hour rule after the very last post and play it nice and fair ;).
I'd say that if you're responding to a direct inquiry, in the positive or negative, you shouldn't be penalized. It would go against the whole concept of a "forum" for people to feel that they couldn't immediately respond to trade offers.
No need for bumping if the forum would just randomize all topics. So all topics with a post in it from the current day.
Also the search filter is epic here. A little suggestion if it is possible in any way. To have 2 search filters, one for everything behind the [H] and one for everything behind the [W].
Edit: One hour bumps seems to be the way to go. So, if you're active talking in your thread with other users, it's already being bumped. The one free bump will help achieve notice when it's dead and get people interested in what you have to offer.
There is only going to be one stipulation for this compensation: Please do not bump your thread while it's active. Please allow at least 30 minutes to pass without a comment to use your bump. When other people comment, it will already bump your thread and doesn't require your bump. Also, it would be a waste of a bump!
I hope the community finds this change appropriate.
Please note our new bumping policy.
This policy is only temporary. People are bumping once every 1-5 minutes and it's getting out of hand. Until further notice, it's once every twelve hours. Please respect this policy and it will not be official for much longer.
Update: What do you guys think is fair for bumping? Four bumps per day for your trading threads?
I know 12 hours is a really long time, so I want to reach a compromise.
