I was just in a trade with an Australian fellow by the name of BakedDwarf. Apparently, they wanted to trade me a copy of The Walking Dead for one of my spare Metro keys. I checked SteamRep, but I found nothing against him, so I figured "Aw, what the hell. I mean, who in their right mind would scam for Metro?"

Well...

Never tell your password to anyone.

BakedDwarf: hello

Rabbidking: Howdy

BakedDwarf: wanna trade the walking dead for metro 2033?

Rabbidking: It sounds interesting... but I can't seem to find it in your inventory. Can you display it?

BakedDwarf: the walking dead is a steam key bought from amazon

BakedDwarf: its legit

Rabbidking: It's not region locked or anything, is it?

Rabbidking: Just making sure

BakedDwarf: no im dure

BakedDwarf: sure*

Rabbidking: Well, OK. I'll do it

BakedDwarf: is metro a key or gift?

Rabbidking: Metro is an Amazon key. Is that cool?

BakedDwarf: yeah it is

Rabbidking: OK then. Who's goin' first?

BakedDwarf: hmm can you go first please? if i scam you, you can report and ban me

Rabbidking: OK. After all, who'd scam for Metro, right? xD

BakedDwarf: yeah lol

Rabbidking: OK, here ya go:

Rabbidking: 3RNN4-MIJIE-3EWN2 (note: key already activated, so don't try)

BakedDwarf: ok

BakedDwarf: let me get mine

Rabbidking: Let me know if that works

BakedDwarf is now Offline.

BakedDwarf is currently offline, they will receive your message the next time they log in.

Rabbidking: Y'ello?

At this point, I noticed that the gentlemanly scumbucket activated Metro, unfriended me, blocked me (as evidenced by the fact that I cannot send him a friend request), and did not give back the key. He has also changed his name to Larry Kareeeeeeeeeeeeeem.

Also, this is the first time I have been scammed. I'm surprisingly calm about this.

Now, I don't have a fancy screenshot capturing system, but can someone point me as to where I can report the douchebag that had to resort to scamming for what essentially amounts to a free game? And how should I go about it, since I am currently writing a report against him on Steam atm.

Just found his SteamRep profile, too. Shoulda looked there first.

EDIT: Here's his info, too (taken from SteamRep):

EDIT 2: In a shocking twist, our little friend just popped up on my Raptr friends list... 3 times! Now, avoid anyone with the names BakedDwarf, Larry Kareeeeeeeeeeeeeem, J_P, Ludivia_Lovelace, or Ada_Moon.

EDIT 3: This just in: retribution has (sort of) arrived! I check this guy's profile today, and he's been BANNED from trade! Unfortunately, his Steam account isn't suspended, and he may still try to get at your keys through chat, so BEWARE!

If you still have the chat screen up, just hit the Print Screen key on you keyboard, open up paint, and hit CTRL+V and it'll paste the image of your desktop. Also, if you could add a link to his Steam ID for everyone else here, it'll be really helpful.

Thanks for the info. If Steam contacts me, asking for screenshots, I'll know I have 'em. Many thanks to you, good sir/ma'am.

That's quite funny. But you can't honestly tell me that your Metro 2033 was bought from Amazon.......

1 decade ago
Permalink

Very possible. A lot of Amazon buyers bought a bundle of THQ games about 2 weeks before that damned Humble. Too bad the OP didn't trade it faster :)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Yeah, from the THQ Mega Pack. Metro just seems to stalk us all, don't it?

A lot of people get mad when games drop in sale price soon after they purchase, but that one was tough on a lot of people who bought several sets. I was lucky to buy just one set, and was able to trade off what I didn't need before the Humble came out.

Still, hard to fault Amazon for their packs.

Good to know, he added me, I was wary of him since he added me and commented on my profile as opposed to posting in my trade thread.

Surprisingly, I'm not too mad. At least I don't have any more Metro keys that few people want. And, it could be a lot worse. But, the poor bastard had to scam for Metro. I'm tense now, but tomorrow I'll be LOLing.

You thought you were going to get The Walking Dead for Metro? Your calm state is going to give way to disbelief that you actually had that expectation :)

All in fun - scamming of all kinds sucks rocks. Anyone scamming for Metro bears out to be a true lowlife by many definitions.

Hey, I've gotten crazier deals before. I got both Bioshock games in the course of a week by trading bundle games.

1 decade ago
Permalink

The Bioshock games were in Amazon bundles as well; if someone only wanted one or two games from an indie bundle it could be near enough 1:1 in their eyes to make the deal. Great trades though. Sorry about Metro you can have mine if you want lol ;)

and you bought this? "You can report me and ban me"...

I found out cuz of his profile, that he scammed Hitman Absolution from somebody!

Meh, serves you right for selling farmed Metro keys. Not much of a loss anyway, and I've seen several reports about this guy today already. I noticed something about scammers: a lot of them scam for shits and giggles rather than material gain. They just like the thrill of "winning" through social engineering. This isn't going to stop anytime soon until Valve starts banning all accounts associated with the scammers' identities, something they are clearly not doing right now.

A: What does "farmed" mean?

And B: No one deserves to get scammed, and he (as did I, and others) actually payed our money for the game. So he was scammed of something he bought, yes he didn't pay much, but money is money.

But yeah, hope this asshole gets shut down. Hell, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to ban by IP address (I assume they could do that?), that would keep the fuckers at bay.

Farmed means keeping a bunch of keys for one game, usually by exploiting. JackTheWhite is correct, I did have a couple more Metro keys than the average person should (1 from the THQ Metro Facebook page, 1 from the NVIDIA Facebook page, and 1 from Amazon), I only have the Amazon one left anyway (And I know people who still have at least six keys from the "Free Metro 2033!" blitzkrieg.) I still tried to do some good with the keys, though; I wasn't intentionally sitting on them, waiting to sell them at cheap prices. I gave the THQ one to a friend who had missed the "Free Metro!" blitz, and traded the NVIDIA key for a game I can't remember. Still, gotta be pretty desperate to scam for a free game.

Metro keys got farmed by some people via the free Facebook promotion a while back. Some have hundreds of those keys stored, which drives the trade value down a lot. I commonly get silly offers like "5 Metro keys for your game".

1 decade ago
Permalink

Hmm, never got into the free promotions, bought it when it was new, and my only extra copy was from the Amazon bundle.

Not sure what anyone would do with 5 copies of the game lol.

Just checked, he is King Jong II now.

For a scammer, he is a fairly long time user, and has alot of games. Seems funny to risk it all for one game (or a few, as he has scammed before)

Reported him though, hopefully they ban him.

Now they are "lawl" and their profile is private (just checked to see if they got banned, and saw they changed their name again)

And bumping this so no one gets scammed by this loser.

You did one mistake there. You shouldn't have went with his pace. Make the other person stick to yours instead.

Walking Dead for Metro would have been a warning sign in my opinion... at least he's banned now!

And I've actually seen his profile before... not sure when or why though.
